March 24, 2003:

Today we are making some optimizations to the RuneScape servers to make the game faster for everyone. This will mean some short disruptions in the game, for which we apologize in advance.

Thanks for bearing with us, the improvement will be worth it.

March 18, 2003:

We would like to remind our users that buying/selling RuneScape accounts is not allowed, and that buying/selling RuneScape items for real money outside of the game is also not allowed.

We did once consider selling Runescape money and items in an online shop on our own site for real cash. However we decided to sacrifice that extra revenue for the good of the game, since we felt it would devalue hard-working players achievements if another player could then just buy their way past them. We don't want rich players to be able to simply buy their way to the top. This is clearly not how the game is meant to be played.

There are also practical reasons why we can't allow this. For instance if we allowed players to sell accounts outside of the game it would become very difficult for customer support to tell who the rightful owner of the account was, which would undermine our password support service.

We are checking auction sites such as EBay on a daily basis, and all auctions found there are removed, so if you try it you will lose your money. We are also making all efforts to track down buyers and sellers of items/accounts and will ban any accounts we find linked with these auctions.

Jagex is very pleased to announce two fantastic new subscription options, Pay By Phone and Pay By SMS/Text Message!

Pay by Phone is currently only available to residents of the United States and the United Kingdom, and Pay By SMS/Text Message is only available to residents of the United Kingdom.

You can check out these new payment options by navigating through 'Members Info' and 'Click here to Subscribe' from the main page.

We hope that these quick and easy payment options will allow even more of our free players to enjoy the benefits of a RuneScape Members' account! However please be sure to get permission from whoever pays the phone-bill before using this.

A new quest is now online!

Professor Gronigen has had trouble with some neighboring goblins, who have managed to break his telescope. Idiots.

Help the Professor to repair the telescope, and he will show you the secrets of the stars, and the cosmos as we know it. Broaden your horizons in The Observatory Quest.

Finally you can take a break from killing each other and ponder on your role in the Universe.

And those of you that communicate with Saradomin and Zamorak may be interested to learn that there's a little something extra for those that manage to complete this particular adventure...

March 6, 2003:

As part of our commitment to stop scamming of all forms, today sees the launch of the new RuneScape secure Message Centre.

The Message Centre allows us to communicate with you about your account in a much more secure way than email does. As long as you are sure that you only log-in at the official RuneScape website, you can be sure that any messages in your Message Centre are from Jagex.

For now, only Jagex Staff can send messages to your Message Centre - but we hope to be introducing player-to-player messaging in the future.

March 4, 2003:

After many days of surveying, pacing and measuring, the Runescape cartographers have finally returned to the Library of Varrock.

Reldo the Librarian is pleased to announce the release of a new map of the known Runescape World, available through the manual section. This new map is now fully up to date, to give adventurers the drop on Yanille, The Tree Gnome Village and even Tutorial Island.

March 3, 2003:

Today sees the release of the third part of our ongoing members quest! The new Underground Pass adventure follows on from the Plague City and Biohazard quests...

The War against the Dark Lord continues. In order to track down the evil King Tyras, you must first make your way through The Underground Pass.

We now know from our team of scouts that the Underground Pass is in fact a deep and complex labyrinth, which is all but empty of human kind.

Your job is to find a way through the pass, so that King Lathas can send his troops through to the frontierlands of West Runescape.

We had hoped to get this information from our scouts, but for some reason we had troubled getting much sense out of them. One of them spoke of a man named Iban, but this was clearly lunacy, as Iban was of course the great Dark Knight who died many years ago.
