July 1 | July 9 | July 10 | July 21 | July 22 | July 28 July 28, 2003: Murphy the trawler fisherman has recently docked in at Port Khazard. He's happy to take any keen fishermen on a fishing trip with him. Be warned though, his boat is not in the best of shapes for the high seas, and you'll be spending a lot of time running around fixing leaks. This far out at sea you never know what new and exciting things you might catch, especially if you are an experienced fisherman. That is, if you can stop the trawler from sinking and get back to port safe and dry with your catch! A problem which was causing the chat-filter to incorrectly filter things it shouldn't has now been fixed. We are now using a more advanced system which shouldn't cause so many false positives and so should hopefully be much less intrusive. Our new members quest Gertrude's cat is now online. Gertrude's cat has been missing for some time now - for her piece of mind her prized pet must be rescued. Handling cats isn't an easy business. They get hungry and need plenty of attention but if you're the pet type, then this is the quest for you! The cat is also a mini virtual-pet! If you look after it properly, it will grow up and get bigger. However if you neglect it then it will run away July 22, 2003: Progress on our big RuneScape update is still going very well, so I've put together another screenshots page showing the latest features added. Finally, I'd just like to remind you that you should NEVER enter your password ANYWHERE but RuneScape.com. When the update is ready for testing we will put it here on RuneScape.com for everyone to see, and will post about it in our 'news'. Beware scam sites or emails that offer to let you try it out early, they are merely trying to steal your password. Enjoy! - Andrew July 21, 2003: Jagex is very pleased to announce a fantastic new 'Pay By Phone' subscription option for players in Australia and New Zealand. All you need to do is dial a special number from your home phone and the cost of the subscription will be charged to your phone bill! (Just remember you must get permission from the person who pays the phone bill before using this service.) You can check out this new payment option by navigating through 'Members Info' from the main page and 'Click here to Subscribe', and then clicking 'Pay By Phone'. We hope that this quick and easy payment option will allow even more of our free players in Australia and New Zealand to enjoy the benefits of a RuneScape Members' account! Warning: It has come to our attention that two large but independent RuneScape fan sites (one run by W13 and another one run by Lightning) have recently been hacked. If you are not a user of the fansites in question you can safely ignore the rest of this message. Unfortunately we cannot verify or guarantee the security of independent fan websites. Since we don't control these sites there is no guarantee that they are safe to use, or that they are secure. We therefore always recommend you use such independant websites with extreme caution. 1) We have always stated that you should NEVER enter your password ANYWHERE except runescape.com. If you ignored this advice and used your runescape password on a fansite, then your account is in extreme danger, please change your password immediately! 2) We have always stated that you should NEVER download unofficial runescape software from fan-sites, because it may contain a virus or keylogger. If you ignored this advice your runescape account and computer is in danger, since the software may have been modified by the hacker. We recommend you delete it, install anti-virus and firewall software, and change your password. As always we recommend everyone reads our security tips and doesn't just ignore them! Our own security has NOT been affected by this incident. Therefore to allow you to chat and talk in safety we are working hard to launch our own official forums. These are not ready yet since we want to make 100% sure they are secure first. When they are ready they will appear here on runescape.com. Remember: If you receive any emails offering to let you "test" our new forums or any other new features, they are definitely fake, and should be deleted, all our testing is done in-house by our very own QA-team. July 10, 2003: Unfortunately the digsite quest released yesterday had a number of problems, and was not possible to complete as a result. These problems have now been fixed, so it is now possible to complete the quest. You can get the specimen-brush you need to finish the quest by pickpocketing one of the workmen. I sincerely apologize for the botched release of this quest. The members of staff responsible will be fed to the King-Black-Dragon shortly. July 9, 2003: Some
say there are only two religions in the land of Runescape; Saradominist, or 'the
good', and Zamorakian ('the bad'). For many ages religious wars wracked the lands, and the victors decided to write history as they saw fit, denying the existence of other deities. The zealousness of Saradominists and Zamorakians almost wiped all trace of other deities from the land... until now. Now, a more enlightened and modern time, people thirst for knowledge and power, giving rise to those who follow no deity - for no deity meets their beliefs. Turning their back on their family religions older gods were rediscovered, altars, temples and holy places long forgotten are found once more. Most recently a previously hidden altar has been discovered, buried deliberately under tonnes of rock and earth by a saradominist settlement that once existed nearby in their efforts to suppress its' existence... What wonders might exist there? What unknown treasures, or terrible secrets can be found in the digsite quest? July 1, 2003: Making up for his long and unexplained absence, Guthix seems determined to answer yet more questions from players. At extreme length. A selection of questions chosen especially by this most mysterious deity can be found for all to read right now in letters 13. |
