April 24, 2003:

We have moved our New York server (hosting worlds 13 and 14) to San Francisco because a very large number of players told us the New York connection was very poor. The fact that very few players actually used these worlds in their old location backed this up.

Hopefully worlds 13 and 14 will now run much faster, on their new connection in San Francisco.

See a picture of the Runescape team here!

Reldo the Librarian has recently been swamped by his work - quite literally, as a tall and badly balanced pile of books he was cataloguing fell to the powers of gravity and trapped him under a pile of assorted Varrockian literature.

Some might say that this was no accident after his previous defiance of the gods in releasing the bestiary scrolls, but Reldo is nothing if not dedicated to the life of the Librarian, and simply cannot rest until every single article in the library is catalogued and sorted.

Luckily for RuneScape players, as he struggled to free himself from the large pile of heavy books he found some more previously hidden scrolls expanding the bestiary in the Library of Varrock to almost double what it was! And luckily for Reldo his injuries should heal fairly quickly.

You can view the updated bestiary through the Library of Varrock,
or by clicking here.

April 20, 2003:

Happy Easter to all our players!

For a bit of fun, we will be dropping 'Bunny Ears' () at random locations at random times throughout the day.

Please remember - these are supposed to be just a bit of fun for Easter. We've noticed on previous occasions players hoarding huge numbers of the gifts we drop, and then reselling them for massively unfair prices. This really isn't in the spirit of the occasion. :-)

We don't want this to just become an event whereby a few lucky players suddenly become ludicrously unfairly rich. Therefore new holiday drops are non-tradable and limited to one per player. But hopefully still a lot of fun.

April 15, 2003:

We are aware that a very small number of players were having problems playing RuneScape after the last update.

I have now updated the client, and made some changes which should fix this problem, so if you were having trouble please try again.

The problem only occurs if you have an extremely old version of Java so must people weren't affected anyway.

However if RuneScape STILL wont work work for you then visit www.windowsupdate.com and get all of the 'critical' updates listed there. This should fix the problem. This also has the added benefit that it will fix any security problems your computer has. So if you don't want to be hacked you should visit windowupdate.com on a regular basis anyway!

New members only weapons are AVAILABLE NOW!

Members will now be able to smith Throwing knives for themselves, or find Spears dropped by various enemies.
Both weapons are used to attack enemies at range, and are more powerful than arrows, but cannot be stacked in the inventory like arrows can be.

Also if you are attacked while a throwing weapon is equipped you will automatically defend yourself with it.

To use these new weapons, simply equip them in your inventory, and click on an enemy. Throwing weapons utilize and increase your Ranged skill.

Attention all loyal supporters of Zamorak!

Your all-powerful icon has returned from his busy schedule of evil-doing and responded to some of your letters - you can view them here.

To the south of Al Kharid a disused pass has been opened up which leads into the dangerous Kharid desert. A swift death awaits anyone unprepared to deal with the harsh climate and dangerous denizens.

The pass is operated by a man called Shantay and he'll give you fair warning of the desert dangers and will lighten your purse for his trouble. The Desert heat has no friends and will challenge the hardiest of adventurers, and if you're feeling brave, you'll find plenty of adversaries ready to kick sand in your eye.

And recently a distressed mother has been seen mourning the loss of her wayward daughter, a tourist to the desert, lost in the desert to an unknown fate. Perhaps a forewarning for others that would dare to venture into the trackless desert and fall victim to the Tourist Trap.
