Skill Guides

Given the popularity of our recent quest journals update, we've now also introduced quick level-up guides for the various skills. Clicking on a skill in your stats menu will now bring up a table of the various advancements you have available to you at each level. We hope these will give you a quick way to check what you are working towards whilst playing.

Repeatable Skills

We've now improved the controls for various skills in the game. Where before you may have had to tell your character to make various items one at a time, many interfaces now include right-click options that allow you to produce whole batches without wearing your fingers away.
You can then watch your character make the items, as you already do when smithing bars.

There are now "make five", "make ten" and "make x" right-click options on the following;

  • Spinning wheels

  • Glass making

  • Leather crafting

  • Pottery wheels

  • Silver crafting

  • Fletching

Furnaces now have an option to left-click on them, which brings up an interface for you to select the quantity and type of ore you wish to smelt.

Duel Arena Scoreboard

Examining the scoreboard at the front of the duel arena now shows the results of the last 50 duels on that server.

Kalphite Queen New Attack

The Kalphite queen has added a new attack to her arsenal. This ferocious creature was only ever intended to be killable by teams of players, thus keeping the dragon chain as a very rare and valuable item, and encouraging people to work together.
However, some players were starting to find methods to take her down single handed, so the queen has evolved a new ranged attack; barbed spines, which she may launch at her victims.

They say that good things come in threes - so it is no surprise that today's website update is three updates in one!

1) Updated Worldmap

We have updated our map of the RuneScape world to include the new areas from our most recent quest updates.

2) Game Screen Navigation Bar

We have added a navigation bar above the game window to provide quick access to useful links such as the worldmap, manual and main menu.

3) New Newsletter

Followers of the floating skull will be ecstatic to know that our favorite nature deity Guthix has returned again to spread some of his strangely worded wisdom in Newsletter 24 - Guthix ponders. Those curious to know what message Guthix has brought with him this time should head immediately to the Library of Varrock.

Last night we saw a record 53,000 simultaneous players!

This is great news, because more players means we can afford to do bigger updates, and also means we can afford to buy more servers and bandwidth.

To make sure there is always enough space for everyone who wants to play we have just put another 4 worlds online. 3 of them are free worlds, and 1 of them is members only. These worlds are located in Atlanta, and are our first servers in that part of the US.

Enjoy the extra space!
Andrew

New Big Monster!:

There are reports of strange happenings in the desert south west of Shanty pass, animals have been disappearing and a large hole has appeared. Scouts were sent in to investigate, but as of yet none have returned...

Will you fare any better against what lies beneath the sand?

Test your mettle if you will, but beware, whatever crawls in the tunnels below is fierce and more than a match for even the toughest of adventurers!

New Potion!:

Deep under the sand, hidden from the burning heat of the desert, grows the Potato Cactus. A strange plant with some magical properties, it's rumored that when mixed with Lantadyme and water, it produces a potion which will increase the drinkers magical powers...

September 4, 2004:

On 4th-sept the internet connection to our UK servers failed, causing our UK worlds to become temporarily unavailable.

I phoned the company that provides the hosting & bandwidth for the UK servers, and was told that the problem was causing by their main router failing. In fact apparently not only had their main router broken, but the backup router had broken also! The situation was further exasperated by the air-conditioning to one of the racks failing, causing equipment to overheat. All this meant it took longer than expected to get everything fixed.

The hosting company managed to get the UK servers back online earlier today (5th sept), by swapping in a 3rd replacement router, but it seems the replacement was unable to handle all the traffic so the servers were somewhat laggy.

Apparently the original router has now been fixed, so they've all been moved back to that one. It seems everything is finally working, the servers are online and there doesn't seem to be any lag (fingers crossed!)

Thanks for your patience
Andrew

Today we have expanded herblore by adding the following 2 new potions.

Energy potion:

  • Requires level 26 Herblore.

  • Ingredients: Harralander and Chocolate Dust (Grind chocolate in a pestle and mortar to get this ingredient.)

  • Effect: Restores 10% of run energy per dose.

Super energy potion:

  • Requires level 52 Herblore.

  • Ingredients: Avantoe and Mort Myre Fungi (You will need to have completed the Nature Spirit quest to get this ingredient.)

  • Effect: Restores 20% of run energy per dose.

We have made it so that the super restore potion now also restores non combat stats (which we expect some people will find useful in the agility arena.)
