October 27, 2004:

Whilst recuperating from one of his usual unexplained accidents, and browsing through his book collection in the Library of Varrock, the venerable librarian Reldo discovered a much worn drawing of The Grand Tree nestled between two books.

With forward thinking not usually associated with occupants of the royal castle, Reldo elected to copy the drawing and turn it into a wallhanging that he could sell to the world to offset some of his (rather large) medical expenses.

Unfortunately for him, he forgot to charge for it! If you visit the Extra Files section of the website you can grab yourself a copy of this fine piece of art.

We would also like to remind players that it is recommended to only download such files from our website, as malicious players or sites may try and send you modified files that contain malware.

Mage Armour Revamped

Players have fed back that the mage armour wasn't looking particularly magey or powerful looking. Therefore the wizards have given it a bit of nip and a tuck, and they hope you like their changes.

Extra Clues and Clue Rewards

We have introduced more clues into the mix of random clues. Those who know most of the answers will now have new challenges.
Due to the bigger variety of clues, we have also added some new treasure trail rewards for people to find.

        Happy treasure hunting!

The Flamtaer Hammer

We have introduced a new hammer into the game which should help you with your temple building in Mort'ton. This can be bought from Razmire for 10,000 coins.
You'll need slightly less people to build your temples if you have the hammer. You will still need a team, and that team can still be smaller if you have a higher crafting level, but the numbers of people you need at lower levels will be less.

This we hope will address problems we may have in the future, when the update isn't so new and less people will be in the area because they are trying out other new updates. We have also changed the rewards you get from the chests in this area.
Amongst other things there has been a small increase in the chance of getting cloth.

Music Looping

We now have an extra button on the music interface. Click the loop button, and the tune you are listening to will start again when it ends.

Potion Emptying

Potions now have a right click "empty" option on them, so if you need the vials you don't have to spend a long time drinking potions to empty them.

Shades Of Mort'ton

Mort Myre's south border has been breached, and a path towards a strange town called Mort'ton has been found.
Strangers return from such visits with tales of the "afflicted", and shadowy creatures who jealously guard their tomb treasure.
Amongst these stories is the rumour of a pagan temple, Flamtaer, whose remains lie north of the town itself; does this ancient ruined construction hold the key to this shadowy conundrum?

Find out in the Shades of Mort'ton Quest!

New Mage Armour

There's a new arrival in the Wizards Tower, and he's wearing some very strange new armour. Splitbark Armour is a new armour for Magic users; can you find all the pieces to get a set yourself?

Visit the Wizards Tower to learn more!

We inadvertently introduced a bug in the last update with monsters magic defense. We unintentionally changed the way this was calculated, making many npcs more resistant to magic.

This has now been fixed.

We apologize for any inconvenience or confusion caused.

Saturday night we saw a record 64,000 simultaneous players!

To make sure there is always enough space for everyone who wants to play we have just put another 4 worlds online. This time located in Dallas. 3 of them are free worlds, and 1 of them is members only.

Enjoy the extra space!
Andrew

Additions to Morytania

The waters of Morytania have begun to recede, opening up a few new paths through the swamps. There are now a number of new enemies to be found in these swamps.
Blood sucking leeches abound near the waters, ghouls can be found lurking near graveyards and there are sightings of some of the lower ranked vampires, the race said to rule over Morytania.

Also, reports of a Blamish Snail infestation in Mort Myre have been confirmed by the villagers of Canifis. Highly prized for the blamish snail oil which can be made from their slime, these huge, acid spitting mollusks also bring a splash of color to the swamps with their brightly colored and functional shells. Enterprising (and style conscious) armourers are already planning a new autumn range of 'Snelms' (Snail Shell Helms) for the discerning adventurer.

Another report today comes from a slightly eccentric man who claims to have seen slimey things swimming in the swamp waters of Mort Myre. Apparently these strange creatures have extended bodies, a slimey appearance, narrow eyes and go down well with lots of strong flavored drink.

We have also made some changes to the following areas of the game:

Agility Changes

A lot of the agility areas in the game have been reworked slightly, and we have reduced a lot of the annoying delays, especially on some of the pipes.
Agility now works a lot more smoothly in general.

As you will now be able to get around some of the agility courses slightly quicker, we have therefore reduced the experience slightly for completing some of the courses. This means that because you can get round the course more quickly now, you won't be gaining experience any slower than before, and may in some cases actually be gaining it slightly quicker.

Gnomeball Changes

Gnomeball has been given a much needed polish. We have gotten rid of the old interface and replaced it with a much more intuitive system. Now you can shoot by just clicking the goal net, pass by clicking on another player or gnomeballer, and tackle is now an option on other gnomeballers too.

Cooking Experience Changes

We have been more generous on the amount of cooking experience given on some of the less popular aspects of cooking. You should find this increase in experience when cooking all pies, cakes, pizza, curry and stew.

Fans of the ever-enigmatic nature deity known as Guthix will be ecstatic to hear that he has returned once again to answer some of our players letters in Letters 25.

Those players curious to know what secrets and portents might have been revealed in this latest edition of the letters should, as usual, make their way immediately to the Library of Varrock and see what wisdom might be contained within...
